WHAT IS DETOX & REHAB
Addiction recovery is in two parts for most people. A Detox is the first part of the process, where the body detoxifies on a physical level. This required specific medication for some detoxes, such as alcohol, to prevent unwanted cravings, help sleep and anxiety and minimise the side effects of withdrawal. You may need a detox for alcohol rehabilitation, cocaine rehabilitation centre, stimulants (Ice), cannabis, GHB, prescription medication (eg. benzos) or MDMA and hallucinogenic.
Rehabilitation is the non-physical part of withdrawal, which is a minimum of four weeks and does not require medication. According to industry research, it takes 28 days to change addictive patterns. Full recovery can take several months, however. The best recoveries are usually the longer stays, but everyone is different. As a rule, the more changes you make in your life while you are in a detox centre or rehab centre, the less likely you are to relapse.

detox vs Rehab
At Gold Coast Detox and Rehabilitation Services, we are committed to helping you on your journey to recovery. Our therapies are tailored for your specific needs.
Detoxification and rehabilitation are critical components of the journey towards recovery from addiction. Detox is the initial step, allowing individuals to safely manage withdrawal symptoms and rid their bodies of harmful substances. Rehabilitation follows, offering tailored treatment plans designed to address the root causes of addiction. These phases play a crucial role in promoting health and safety by breaking the cycle of substance abuse. By understanding the importance of detox and rehabilitation, we can better support those struggling with addiction, provide them with the help they need and foster healthier, safer communities. Awareness of these processes is a significant step in the fight against addiction’s devastating effects.

WHat to Expect
One of our service locations provides options for a medicated drug and alcohol withdrawal to make sure you detox as comfortably as possible. At our private drug and alcohol detox centre, We offer daily counselling with your own addiction specialist, no groups. You are permitted to use your phone, use the internet, have family meet-ups nearby and smoke outside on our verandas. Our service also includes airport pickups and transportation. You can even bring your dog to our location.
Our Setting
Some environments are better suited to some people. Doing your rehabilitation in a quiet, private, non-hospital environment may be better for you if you don’t require medical intervention in a clinical setting. We have 1:1 counselling daily to address the underlying causes of your addiction and provide family visitations where needed. We provide a confidential retreat-style environment so you can relax and get well. Our warm and caring staff will make sure you feel at home.
About Our Team
Our team consists of addiction counsellors, prescribing practitioners, social workers, support workers, psychologists, nutritionists, naturopaths and a physical therapy team. We only employ people who love what they do and who maintain 100% sobriety in their personal life. Our team all have inspirational stories and all enjoy rich and fulfilling lives outside work. We don’t employ X-users as a company policy, preferring to offer you mentors who have skills in being sober.
Our Values
While we don’t promote AA 12-step recovery, we are all well-versed in the AA values and realise AA doesn’t work for everyone. We offer an alternative to AA, with no group work and only 1:1 counselling. We do have educational classes through the week which can be participatory or you can just listen in. Our therapists aim to make individual treatment plans with you. However, should you need to share their perspectives with your mental health team, our counsellors do CBT, ACT, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Narrative and Systems-based approaches.
About Our Process
- First Step
The first step is finding a time to speak to our assessment team over the phone for an intake appointment. Based on this conversation, you and your team members will decide on the right length of stay and date of arrival. Our intake days are Mondays usually, but if you don’t require a detox, we can admit you on any day that suits you. The average length of stay is 7-28 days. Our prescriber will also make a time with you if you need medication, which will be organised offsite. A doctor’s referral and medical clearance letter is required.
2. One Week at a Time
It’s hard to commit to rehabilitation if you don’t know where you are going. We suggest committing to one week to start with. We reserve your bed for you, so it’s yours until you decide to leave. Most of our clients choose to stay because they love the atmosphere we create. This is an advantage because the more free will you have over your recovery, the better the results. Nobody will make you stay. We are not a lock-down service, so you only stay if you like it. We are committed to providing a safe, healthy and supportive environment for you to have the best possible chance of recovery. After your exit, it’s not goodbye. We follow up with you and always have an open door for lunch.
3. Length of Stay
Our service provides detox and short-term rehabilitation, which is normally between 7-28 days. The length of stay depends on the individual’s personal commitments, history and finances. The general rule is to aim for the longest rehab stay possible for the best outcomes and to reduce the probability of relapsing.
